This favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner of all Czech babies actually comes from the Ancient Rome. Apicus, a collection of Roman cookery recipes from 4th century AD mentioned it already. Semolina has been widely used in the whole Europe though. Semolina Porridge is the most known in Romania as Griș cu lapte, Slovakia as krupicová kaša and of course in the Czech Republic as krupicová kaše (pronounced as krupitsovah kashe).
For 5 small bowls, you’ll need:
4 cups of whole milk
9 tbsp of semolina
a hint of salt
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp butter
fruits, chocolate, cinnamon sugar for toppings
In a deep pan, mix together all milk, semolina ans salt. Bring to boil, stir and cook for about 5 minutes to reach thick consistency. Add sugar.
When you add sugar during cooking, porridge can get burned.
Serve hot with melted butter and your favorite topping or chilled with topping only. Enjoy!
Great post.
